Love this book! It's such an easy read, and the information about child development coupled with strategies for language learning is great! I love the practical examples provided and all of the ready-to-use tools included. This is a great book if you are just starting to become a bilingual family or if you need some motivation to continue being a bilingual family!
Despite being chock-full of academically-based information, this book reads from start to finish with ease. The text combines real-life situational examples with a follow-up of suggested vocabulary, exercises, and activities. I strongly suggest this book for those currently incorporating bi/multilingualism and those considering it.
Great background information on how we learn best and love the included cheat sheets to get you started right away. It would be much more challenging to start now to teach my kids Spanish if I didn’t have any knowledge on the language myself. Glad I had it on kindle unlimited bc it would have been a pricy to by the book.
What a great read! I was amazed how the author presented academic information in a free flowing, easy to read manner. To be honest, I didn't expect to get excited about reading more academic literature pertaining to obtaining a second language. After studying ESL for two and a half years, I needed a break. However, I was quickly caught up in the book and was shocked how the author succinctly summarized my two and a half years of study.
Easy read. As someone trying to learn a second language, and obviously not a child, these practices and routines in my own daily life have truly accelerated my progress. I work with these routines with my wife. Within a month, I saw major progress. This book is not just for children, but for the natural language growth for anyone. Constancy is key, and with that I'm continuing to grow in my language journey. Thank you Daniela and Dr. Atkins for this wonderful opportunity.
This book is an excellent resource for parents and educators. I'm fortunate enough to have placed all three of my kids in Mrs. Perieda's bilingual preschool classes so I have seen the results of the practical uses described in this book. Likewise, I think the authors are spot on about the methods for raising bilingual children. This is a holistic approach and as Ms. Perieda explains, children and adults learn through meaningful, fun experiences. I have seen my children's journey to becoming bilingual through using the simple and effective routines which are well explained in this book. Pick this up and use it as a resource.
